Gisenyi is a city in Rubavu district in the Western Province of Rwanda. Gisenyi is contiguous with Goma, the city across the border in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.  This city is a must visit for any tourist, there are many good hotels and resorts located here. There are sandy beaches where tourists can enjoy various water sports. There are boat services to other tourist destination like Kibuye which is highly recommended. A unique attraction is the Methane extraction plant located here, it is the worlds only plant extracting methane from a lake. This is not open to public but one can see it by taking a boat ride in the lake. There are many hot water springs in and around this region. Goma is less than 5 kilometers from Gisenyi and one can witness the power of an active volcano by visiting Goma which witnessed a volcanic eruption in the recent past. Gisenyi is just 3 hrs from Kigali by road, the roads are in good condition. The fisher men of Gisenyi are also an interesting attraction.
