Travelling by MOTO
The most convenient form of short distance travel is the MOTO, these are Bike Taxis that take one passenger. There are different types of Moto’s for hire in most towns of Rwanda. The most common ones in the bigger cities are commuter bikes, however towards the interiors one can find smaller mopeds also running as taxis.
Wearing a helmet is compulsory, we would recommend you carry a helmet of your own if you intend to do a lot of travelling on Motos, one can buy a decent quality helmet for less than 20000 Frw. As a security measure all bike’s have to clearly display his operators license and telephone number to contact for emergencies on the helmet. There is a co-orporative society that governs all the bike’s and if you experience any misconduct they are available to help you.
If you have any trouble with the driver while travelling on one of these you can always give the operators license to a traffic police and they can easily track him and set things right.
They are more expensive than travelling by bus and are only suitable for short commutes ,but due to their personal nature, they are a lot more convenient. When you are travelling in Rwanda you are sure to make friends with one of these Moto operators.
